I have published mysteries with Berkley Prime Crime (Penguin) and nonfiction with John Wiley & Sons, Scott Foresman, and Bantam. Today I have nearly a dozen indie-published books, with more coming every year.

We all know that the publishing world has drastically changed in the last decade. New authors may find it difficult to know what to do with their manuscripts–seek an agent and a traditional deal, or venture into the brave new world of self-publishing?

Each route has advantages and disadvantages; there’s no one “right” route for every author. I wanted to provide this booklet for writers to whom both publishing routes are still unknowns, so they can make informed decisions and better prepare themselves for the challenges and opportunities of being an author.
